CALVIN'S STORY

Picture
Calvin was born on Valentine's Day in 2013. He was born with a birth defect that causes his esophagus not to be connected to his stomach, which was repaired the day he was born. Due to this birth defect he's had to undergo surgery to have his esophagus be dilated many times. Calvin spent his first 3 months of life in the CCHMC NICU. He had little birth family involvement.
At 4 months old, Calvin was welcomed to a loving family as a foster son, and was adopted one year later!  Soon after the adoption, his parents found out that his genetic condition was called Mandibulofacial Dysostosis with microcephaly and that it's extremely rare, with only 108 worldwide cases. This condition caused Calvin to be born with Microcephaly, hearing loss, and the birth defect in his esophagus. Now Calvin is 4 1/2 years old and is doing great! He is in preschool and he loves to dance and sing. He can sign like crazy and even tries to verbalize! Cincinnati Children's has been there throughout all of his journey. Calvin wouldn't be close to where he is today without them.
